Are you – honest? reliable? sensible? committed? kind? confident? smart? have good ideas? able to listen? have a good memory? calm? and cheerful?
If you think you have these qualities then maybe you are just the person that the School Council needs!
Keep a look out for dates and details over the next few weeks.
School Councillors will be elected by the end of Autumn Term 1. The council is made up of two representatives from each class (years 1 – 6) and 2 year 6 children who represent reception classes.
Children are nominated and voted for by the children in their class and attend weekly meetings alongside Mrs Skelly and Mrs Walker who monitor the School Council.
The children have a very important job and are the voice of the children in school. Through their work we have been able to raise lots of money for the school and various charities.
Some of the charities we have supported over the years are: Diabetes UK, Childline, Children in Need, Comic relief, Heatbeat, Bradford City Burns Unit, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Biggest Coffee Morning for MacMillan.
The children have also supported the local community by regularly tidying up the Sandy Lane area through activities such as litter picking.
The School Council also has close links with the Local Counsellors from City Hall and are regularly invited to have a tour of City Hall which is always an exciting experience.

Claret & Amber Day
Claret & Amber Day was a great success! The aim of the school council was to involve the whole school in remembering the events at the Bradford City Fire on the 12th May, 31 years ago. Money raised went to support the Bradford Burns Unit.
New Litter Picking Equipment!
The school council have now raised enough money, from various fund-raising activities, to buy their own litter picking equipment. We’ve already been able to have a bit of a clean round the playground and also round the streets close to the school. As the weather improves we’ll hopefully be able to spend many lunchtimes helping to keep the local area clean.
The Sandy Lane School Council are out and about keeping our community clean!
Our school council are once again showing how committed they are to keeping our local environment litter free. They’ve been braving the cold to chase down three full black sacks of tin cans, plastic bottles, glass and fast food wrappers, all from the streets surrounding the school.
As well as tidying up Sandy Lane, it was a great opportunity to get to know our neighbours better. From cars passing by beeping their support to one lovely lady coming out to bring chocolate biscuits for all the hard workers, we showed the community how much it means to us to look after our area.
The School Council Healthy Tuck Shop is back up and running!
Thursday morning break is the time to stock up on your healthy snacks – fruit and cereal bars on offer for just 30p.

Our New School Council 2015-2016
Congratulations to all our new class representatives!
Our School Council consists of two representatives from each of the classes in school.
Elections for 2015/2016 will be taking place on the 30th September 2015, and the new School Council will be announced on the 7th October. Keep your eye on this page to see who your new representatives will be! Our Local Authority Councillors Dunbar and Duffy will be coming into school on that day to announce the names.
The focus for this year will be healthy bodies and minds, and some events will focus on this, for example a healthy eating day for whole school and events looking at diets, lunchbox con tents, teeth, etc.
The children will continue to be very proactive in our local Sandy Lane Community, for example regular litter picking, visiting Tuesday Club and having coffee mornings.
The main charity the School Council will be supporting this year is Diabetes UK.
Last year’s very successful events included Red Nose Day, Yellow Day, Children in Need, Comic Relief, visiting the Town Hall, school council magazine, healthy tuck shop, and inviting guest speakers such as local councilors and wardens in to school.
